Chandigarh, July 2

On the occasion of Vanamahotsava - 2018, MP Kirron Kher on Monday inaugurated ‘Paudhmela’ at a parking place near the Sukhna Lake Club.

Three stalls of the Forest Department, Municipal Corporation and Horticulture Wing of the Engineering Department, Chandigarh, are set up here. The Forest Department is distributing saplings free of cost whereas other departments are selling the same at nominal rate depending upon the species.

One stall of the Accacia Eco Club of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16-D, Chandigarh, is also set up here where herbal/Tulsi plants and Giloy stems are distributed by various schools of Chandigarh.

After inaugurating ‘Paudhmela’, Kirron Kher, who was also chief guest on the occasion, flagged off ‘Mahindra Scorpio Getaway’, a pick-up van for rescuing wild animals and bringing them to health care facility or releasing them in the forest area.

Santosh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh, said this vehicle was purchased from grant under the MPLAD scheme during year 2017-18.

Kher also launched a ‘plantation drive-2018’ and planted a ‘jamun’ sapling. Santosh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, TC Nautiyal, Conservator of Forests, and other senior officers of the Administration also planted saplings.

Kirron Kher requested the city residents to take part in this Vanamahotsava with full enthusiasm and make Chandigarh a clean & green city. She said: “If we adopt ‘Each One Plant One” theme, then Chandigarh is going to be a greener place”.
