Panchkula, July 16

The local health authorities are on their toesas over five cases of Malaria have been reported within 10 days in Panchkula district.

Meanwhile, two cases have been reported from Kalka, one from Surajpur, one from Jalouli village and one case from Rajiv Colony.

Swinging into action, the Health Department began the fogging and spraying process in the affected areas.

Though the number of cases this time is less than half the cases reported last year in this season, yet the authorities have started with their awareness drives.

“The places where the cases of Malaria have been reported are under our surveillance. Our team under the District Malaria Officer has got fogging done and Tamiphos sprayed in 50 adjacent houses,” said Chief Medical Officer (CMO) VK Bansal.

Bansal added, “We are getting awareness programmes conducted, especially in villages, asthe water accumulates and is left stagnant in these areas.”

Even during the inspection by Health Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday, the Minister had ensured that necessary arrangements are made for malaria and dengue patients.

“Special sessions and rallies are being held in schools to spread awareness,” the CMO added.

The doctors said the condition was worse in rural areas, particularly in the colonies, as unhygienic living conditions prevailed. “Despite several rallies in these areas, they don’t keep their surroundings clean,” a doctor said.

The local Health Department has also arranged Gambusia fish to kill the breeding mosquitoes.
