Mohali, June 12

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today caught a Ludhiana native with 760 gm of gold, worth Rs 21 lakh, at the Chandigarh international airport. He had hid it in his rectum.

According to information, accused Kuldeep Kumar had returned from Bangkok on an Air India flight this morning. “We caught him with gold in his rectum, We are not allowed to share information regarding this,” confirmed a DRI official.

In recent months, there have been a number of gold recoveries from the airport due to a huge difference in rates of gold in India and some other countries. Customs officials had intercepted a passenger and recovered 210 gm of gold, worth Rs 6.5 lakh, on May 4. The custom officials have seized more than 2.1-kg gold, worth Rs 65 lakh, in five smuggling attempts in March.
