Additional District and Sessions Judge Anshu Shukla today awarded 10-year jail and a fine of Rs 2.01 lakh to a 30-year-old man for raping a 72-year-old hearing and speech impaired woman in 2014.
He was sent to 10-year jail and slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC while under Section 506 (criminal intimidation), he was given one-year jail and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000.
On November 2, 2014, Om Parkash Misra was arrested by the police on a charge of raping an elderly woman in Sector 56. The police said the victim’s son, who ran a shop in Sector 56, had complained that on October 31, the accused came to his shop at 9 pm.
He asked the complainant’s mother to go out for a walk with him, following which the victim went with him. At around 9.45 pm, when the victim failed to return, the complainant began looking for her. The complainant saw the accused raping his mother at a park near a government school in Sector 56. The accused was caught and the police were informed about the incident.
A case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered against Om Parkash at the Sector 39 police station. The police later filed a chargesheet and the court framed charges against him. He was convicted today and the quantum of sentence was also pronounced.
