A Mauli Jagran-based man and his parents were today convicted by a local court in a dowry death case. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Wednesday by the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Poonam R Joshi.

In November last year, a case under Sections 498-A, 304-B and 34 of the IPC was registered against the accused at the Mauli Jagran police station.

The woman (22) died on November 13 last year after she was allegedly strangulated by her husband and in-laws.

According to the police, victim’s father Prabhu Nath Shah, a native of Bihar, complained that his daughter Urmila got married to Raju Kumar, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, on June 5, 2015.

He alleged that soon after the wedding, Raju, his father Rajinder Parshad and his mother Kalawanti started demanding dowry from the victim. The complainant alleged that the accused harassed his daughter and didn’t let her visit his home for one year.

The complainant also alleged that when he visited their house in July this year, the accused made more demands, which he could not fulfil.

Shah alleged that his daughter was strangulated by her husband and in-laws. She was later rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
