The body of an unidentified man, believed to be in his early thirties, was found during the wee hours today on the road dividing Sectors 36 and 37. The police claimed that it was a hit-and-run case.

The head of the victim was crushed from one side. He was noticed lying on the road by a milkman, a resident of Sector 45. The milkman informed the police.

The victim was rushed to the GMHS, Sector 16, in a PCR vehicle where doctors declared him brought dead. A police official said wheels of a vehicle moved over the victim's head, which led to his death. Navdeep Singh Brar, ASP (South), said a case had been registered on a statement of the milkman.

The police are yet to identify the victim as he was not carrying any identity proof. “He seems to be a beggar. We are trying to locate anyone known to him,” said the police official.

The police questioned rickshaw-pullers and auto drivers in nearby sectors in the hope that someone might recognise the victim.
