City Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav have pulled up officials of the Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai-based company, Arya Toll Infra Limited, for the poor maintenance of the multi-level parking at Sector 17.
After Chandigarh Tribune highlighted the lack of facilities at the parking, the Mayor and the Commissioner, along with Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, NP Sharma, Superintending Engineer, and the Medical Officer Health, visited the parking area in the afternoon.
Open defecation, leakage of rainwater and non-functional lights and lifts are among some of the major problems being faced at first multi-level parking of the city in Sector 17. Due to these problems, a majority of those visiting Sector 17 avoid using the parking constructed at a cost of around Rs 50 crore.
While MC officials cleaned all three floors in the morning, the Mayor and the Commissioner were shocked to see leakage and darkness in the parking. The Commissioner directed the officials concerned to ensure that all lights and lifts became functional soon.
The Mayor directed the Medical Officer Health to ensure cleanliness on a regular basis. He took up the issue of open defecation in the parking seriously and directed the officials to ensure that nobody stayed in the parking at night. He said the security in the parking should be enhanced.
The Mayor also directed the officials to make provision for water and a washroom in the parking. He asked them to explore the possibility of engaging private firms for increase the revenue by way of advertisements on the surface of the parking.
As per the terms and conditions of the agreement, Arya Toll Infra Limited is managing the muti-level parking for no profit.
