Chandigarh, July 25

Amid protests by Sector 44-A and B residents, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today removed 16 fixed barriers from internal roads.

MC Chief Engineer NP Sharma said the residents had not taken permission from the UT Chief Architect office and the MC before putting up the barriers. After the orders of senior officials, those were removed.

In the afternoon, when the MC staff reached Sector 44-B, area residents, along with area councillor Ravinder Kaur Gujral, started raising slogans against the MC.

The residents maintained that they put up these entry barriers for their safety. Moreover, with the installation of these, the number of thefts had gone down. The police had even hailed the move, they said.
