The Municipal Corporation has now decided to auction paid parking lots in the city through e-tendering.

Earlier, the MC used to allot paid parking lots through an open auction.

The decision in this regard was taken today at a meeting of the committee to finalise the terms and conditions of the paid parking lots in the city.

Sources said the report of the committee would be placed before the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the MC.

The MC has also decided to auction parking lots for three years instead of the present policy of one year and tenders will be called through e-tendering. All lots will be turned into automated parking lots, a senior MC official said.

Besides, MC officials have also decided to start e-ticketing at all paid parking lots in Chandigarh. It has also been decided to introduce smart cards, which will be recharged at e-Sampark centres, for paid parking.

The meeting decided that that a fine of Rs 5,000 would be imposed on the contractor for violations such as overcharging, failure to install e-ticketing machines, encroachments in parking lots and misbehaviour with commuters. Besides, the MC also decided to impose a penalty of Rs 10,000 for display of advertisements at parking lots.
