MC to penalise parking firm for overcharging

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a penalty on Arya Toll Infra Limited, which has been managing the parking lots in the city, after its internal report found that parking employees were engaged in overcharging motorists at the Sukhna Lake lot.

The Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a penalty on Arya Toll Infra Limited, which has been managing the parking lots in the city, after its internal report found that parking employees were engaged in overcharging motorists at the Sukhna Lake lot.

Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, MC, said the amount of the penalty was under consideration and a decision in this regard would be taken soon. He said a warning had been issued to the company. The company has informed the MC that it has terminated the services of 13 parking attendants with immediate effect. Saini said an inquiry was marked after he received  complaints regarding overcharging at the lake parking. The  inquiry  report found that some commuters were charged Rs 25 for parking whereas the rate was Rs 10.

The  MC has been  receiving  several  complaints of overcharging by company   attendants at various places. Saini  said the   MC had formed teams to check  all parking lots  randomly.  The   company had hiked  the parking rates  from Rs 5 to Rs 10 for a four-wheeler and Rs 2 to Rs 5 for a two-wheeler in December last year.
