MCM student dies as auto hits scooter

Chandigarh, February 12

A 22-year-old student of MCM DAV College, Sector 36, riding an Activa scooter, was killed while her friend, who was riding pillion, was injured after an auto hit their scooter on the road separating Sector 35 and 36 last evening. The auto driver sped away from the spot.

According to the police, the complainant, Mahima Narula, staying as a paying guest in Sector 35, reported that she, along with her friend Himani, a paying guest in Sector 36, was returning from the Elante mall when a speeding auto-rickshaw hit their scooter from the rear side. Both injured were rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, by a passerby in his vehicle from where Himani was referred to the PGI. 

Himani later succumbed to her injuries. She was a native of Bhiwani, Haryana. The autopsy was conducted today and the body handed over to her kin. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Later, Section 304-A (causing death by negligence)  was added to the case.
