Equipment and medicines worth Rs 1.50 crore were destroyed in a major fire that broke out at Sanify Healthcare Private Ltd in Zirakpur last night. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
According to sources, the fire broke out on the second floor of the building. A peon on night duty heard an explosion and informed the owner and fire brigade officials. It is learnt that the fire broke due to a short circuit in the godown.
The fire reportedly spread in the godown and destroyed medicines, besides electrical equipment in the office located near the godown. It took nearly two hours to douse the flames. Four fire tenders, including two from Dera Bassi, were pressed into service, the sources said.
Manjeet Singh, Fire Officer, Dera Bassi, said, “As soon as we got a call regarding the fire, fire tenders were rushed to the spot along with a team of firemen to extinguish the flames. After a struggle of nearly two hours, the firefighters managed to control the blaze, he said.
Sachin Verma, MD, Sanify Healthcare Pvt Ltd, said, “We are yet to ascertain the exact loss. Fortunately, no casualty was reported as the godown was closed at the time of the fire incident. He said the loss was estimated to be between Rs 1.5 and Rs 2 crore.
