Tempers ran high when a migrant died after ramming his Activa into a parked truck at Phase IX, Industrial Area, at around 8 pm today.
Relatives and acquaintances of the victim, identified as Shinku from Jagatpura village, attacked the PCR personnel, alleging that the police had beaten up Shinku for running a rehri in the area just before the accident.
The police too beat up some migrants, who assembled in large number at the spot after the accident.
“Had the police not beaten up Shinku, he would have been alive”, said a relative. Alleging high handedness on the part of police, the agitated relatives did not allow the lifting of the body from the spot till filing of the report.
Earlier, Shinku died on the spot when his scooter hit the parked truck at the accident site. The area DSP Navreet Singh Virk along with inspector Kulbir Singh Sandhu, the area’s Station House Officer, and sub inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO of the Sohana Police Station reached the spot to handle the situation.
The relatives of the victim were demanding action against those policemen, who had thrashed Shinku.
