Minerva Academy continued their dominant run in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports National Football Championship, taming Goa’s Our Lady of Rosary High School 6-1 in Mumbai on Sunday.

Luntingmang Haokip led the rout in the junior boys’ league match, scoring three goals (38th, 48th, 65th), while Arjun Sharma added two goals (35th, 44th) to the tally to the side a comprehensive victory.

Minerva now have six points from two games, having won their first match against OM Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School, Shillong. They are more or less assured of a semifinal berth even if they lose their last fixture against MSP Higher Secondary School, Malappuram.

MSP lost to OM Roy Memorial to hurt their chances after beginning their campaign on a victorious note.

Our Lady of Rosary managed a goal through Milder Soares in the 59th minute, but a few minutes later Mohammad Ajjoruddin Shah scored one more goal for Minerva to dampen their spirits.

The Goan team, despite not mustering a single point, still has an outside chance of advancing by conjuring a massive victory in their last league encounter against OM Roy Memorial.

The other Chandigarh side in fray, Government Model Higher Secondary School, were locked in a goalless draw in their school girls’ league clash against Kadathanad Rajas Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode.

The Government Model girls had lost their first match to Goa’s Rosary Higher Secondary School, but the drawn encounter kept them alive in the competition.

However, they face an uphill task to qualify as they play their final group match against the mighty Umthli Secondary School from Shillong, who have notched massive victories in both their matches so far.

The RFYS National Championship semifinals will be played at the Reliance Corporate Park, Ghansoli, on January 3 and 4, while the finals will be held on January 6.
