Minor delivers baby, juvenile held for rape

CHANDIGARH: A 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended for raping a minor girl, who gave birth to a baby in the seventh month of pregnancy at GMCH, Sector 32, on Tuesday.



Chandigarh, June 12

A 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended for raping a minor girl, who gave birth to a baby in the seventh month of pregnancy at GMCH, Sector 32, on Tuesday.

Sources said the 16-year-old victim, a resident of Burail, Sector 45, complained of stomach ache after which her mother brought her to the hospital where doctors revealed that the girl was pregnant after which she gave birth to a baby boy. The doctors said the newborn was stable and had been kept under observation.

The police were informed about the incident following which the victim’s statements were recorded.

During the investigation, the accused was identified and later he was apprehended. The police have registered a case of rape, including Sections of the POCSO Act, against the minor boy at the Sector 34 police station.

The victim is a single parent child. She was being brought up by her mother and has a brother.

The accused is also a resident of Burail. Sources said the medical examination of the newborn, the victim and the accused was conducted. Their DNA samples were also collected. —TNS
