Chandigarh, March 19

A local court on Monday sentenced two persons to 20 years of imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl.

Gurbachan (21), a resident of Ambala, and Kunal (26), alias Kullu, a resident of Mani Majra, were held guilty under Sections 376-D, 323 and 363 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The convicts have also been directed to pay a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh each.

The case dates back to May 12 last year when the duo was booked on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

The complainant stated that she had gone to Delhi on May 8 and returned three days later only to find her daughter not at home. It was alleged that the girl had gone to market and was kidnapped from there. It was stated that the minor was gang-raped by the duo.

The victim narrated the entire incident on returning home and the matter was reported to the police. After investigation, the police registered a case and arrested the convicts. The defence counsel argued that that the youths had been falsely implicated and they had nothing to do with the case.

However, after listening to the arguments of the prosecution and the defence, the court held the duo guilty of abduction and gang rape.
