Mishaps leave young biker, cyclist dead

CHANDIGARH: Two persons were killed in road accidents in the past 24 hours.

Chandigarh, February 10

Two persons were killed in road accidents in the past 24 hours.

A 58-year-old cyclist was killed after a recklessly driven jeep hit him near the Transport light point in Sector 26 this morning.

The police said the cyclist had been identified as Prem Gautam. He worked at a factory and was returning to his home in Kansal when the accident took place. Inspector Chiranji Lal, SHO of the Sector 26 police station, said the jeep driver, Parvesh Khan, had been arrested. He was released on bail.

Zirakpur: A 28-year-old youth was killed when his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Zirakpur flyover here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Harjot Singh (28), a resident of Shakti Nagar, Dera Bassi.

Investigating officer Harpreet Singh said the incident occurred at around 2.30 am when the victim was returning to Dera Bassi from Chandigarh. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. The driver fled from the spot.
