Mohali, April 26

The Mohali Municipal Corporation, which is ready to spend Rs 2 crore on the repair and renovation of buildings of three schools and a dispensary in Mataur and Sohana villages, is waiting for the state government’s nod for the same.

The proposal in this regard was passed by the MC House around three months ago. It is now lying pending with the state government, waiting approval.

Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh said the MC Councillors from Mataur and Sohana have raised the matter before the corporation. They said the students and patients were suffering due to the dilapidated condition of buildings of some schools and a dispensary in their area. “Though the MC is not responsible for work, considering that the work was in the interest of public, the House passed Rs 2 crore for the purpose,” said Kulwant Singh.

He said they wanted to complete the repair/renovation of the buildings before the onset of monsoon, but the state government kept it pending.

The councillors of the area claimed that the condition of the buildings in question was not well. “Residents have approached us several times. Such issues and proposals should be cleared by the state authorities immediately so that the common man does not suffer,” said the councillors.
