Mohali roads also suffer similar fate

Rains have played havoc with roads here. Most of the roads in the town are in a bad shape with huge potholes and broken berms, causing inconvenience to road users. Adding to their woes, incidents of earth caving in at various sites also pose danger to the people here.

During a random survey of the town, Chandigarh Tribune team found a number of potholes on the road from Balongi to Phase V side.

“This is one of the busiest roads in the town, but its condition is worst. You can see huge potholes on this bumpy road, which leads to several accidents here every second day,” said Ranjit Singh, a resident of Balongi village.

Similarly, the road from Verka Chowk to North Country Mall is in a bad shape. The construction of flyover on it is just making things even worse.

“The road witnesses accidents almost every day and potholes are mostly responsible for this,” claimed a shopkeeper, running a shop along the road. He said they usually put soil in huge potholes, but it washes away with every rain of late.

The story is no different on the road dividing Sector 69 and 70 and the Kumbhra road, leading to Phase XI, here.

“Kumbhra road, which also witnesses heavy traffic of inter-state buses, is very narrow. Adding insult to injury, it has several potholes, which are enough to put any rider/driver in danger at anytime,” said Monika, a local resident.

A senior official of the Mohali Municipal Corporation said they were aware of the poor condition of roads.

“We put soil and waste material in the potholes as temporary arrangement to fix the problem. The repair work will start after the end of monsoon,” said the official.
