Mohali sees death of another dengue patient

One more person died in Mohali today, taking the total number of dengue deaths in the district to six. Apart from that, 72 fresh cases of dengue and two of chikungunya were also reported from Mohali district today. In Chandigarh, as many as 17 new cases of dengue and six of chikungunya were registered on Monday. From Panchkula, two fresh cases of dengue were reported today, taking the total number in the town to 87.

The tricity total of dengue cases has climbed to 1,140 and of chikungunya to 39.

The 17 cases of dengue reported from various health institutions today include 12 new and nine confirmed cases among the probables. Four confirmed cases were also reported from the GMCH-32 yesterday.

According to health officials, of the six new cases of chickungunya reported by the GMCH-32 and the PGI, one is imported, one was reported as wrong address while four are residents of Chandigarh. The details of 30 cases of chikungunya detected in Chandigarh till now is — seven imported, seven wrong address and 16 from Chandigarh.

Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, Anti-Malaria Officer, UT Health Department, said a surveillance drive was conducted at the Marble Market, Dhanas, today. "Other than that, to strengthen preventive activities, daily fumigation is also being carried out along with strengthening of field activities which includes mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources," he said.

He added that in case of fever or dengue or chikungunya-like symptoms, the patient must immediately visit a doctor and get the prescribed tests done. "Avoid self-medication," Dr Aggarwal advised.
