Waterlogging persists

Waterlogging is the major problem that local residents face when the skies open up. This time too, nothing changed on the ground as rain once again brought to the fore the need for a better drainage system.

Residents of Baltana had to deal with waterlogged roads. Commuters, however, vented out their angst against the civic body for not being able to tackle the problem.

Residents of Saini Vihar, Phase III, Batlana, Jamuna Enclave and Tribune Colony said they had reconciled to their fate due to the failure of the civic body. They claimed that despite taking up the matter with their councillor and demanding an effective drainage system on numerous occasions, no MC official visited the area. Moreover, waiting for a bus at the Zirakpur is a nightmare for commuters. The place where buses stop remains waterlogged and filthy. “Inadequate and clogged sewer pipes result in waterlogging,” said Manish Kumar, a resident of Baltana.

“Though the weather is pleasant, stagnant water is a big nuisance,” said Malkit, another resident. SK Aggarwal, Executive Officer, Zirakpur MC, said, “ Low-lying areas are more vulnerable to waterlogging. The topography of the areas is to be blamed for the problem. A team was dispatched with tools and machinery to pump out water from these areas.
