Mother jumps into Sukhna with daughter, dies

CHANDIGARH:A 60-year-old Panchkula resident died after jumping into Sukhna Lake today.

A 60-year-old Panchkula resident died after jumping into Sukhna Lake today. Her 39-year-old daughter also took the plunge with her but survived and is being treated at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. The deceased woman has been identified as Usha Sharma while her daughter’s name is Aarti. 

The incident took place on Friday night when the mother-daughter duo jumped into the lake near the banyan tree. The police reached the spot and rescued the daughter while her mother was declared brought dead at the hospital. The police said the two were depressed as Aarti was not keeping well. 

The deceased mother was single. Till the filing of this report, Aarti was not in a condition to record her statement. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
