Nabha, December 12

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in association with Birla Soft Company, organised a seminar in Ageti village near here to create awareness among farmers about hazards of stubble burning.

PAU Vice Chancellor BS Dhillon also honoured farmers who had decided not to burn the paddy residue to save the environment from pollution. He urged farmers to seek the advice of the agriculture experts from Punjab Agricultural University  to increase farm yield and get familiar with the latest techniques being used in the farming sector.

Dashmesh Mechanical Works had organised an exhibition in the village to display mechanical implements being used to deal with the stubble residue and for other agricultural purposes.

Birla Soft Company provided financial aid to farmers for purchase of machinery while PAU experts provided technical knowhow.

Speaking on the occasion Tanu Kathuria of Birla Soft Company said that a detailed plan was being prepared so that more and more farmers join in the campaign to save the environment.

Progressive farmer Hardev Singh said farmers of Ageti and Bibipur villages had decided not to burn paddy residue and instead use machinery to deal with it.
