Newborn of 15-yr-old rape victim dies a day after delivery in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, June 15

A newborn child of a 15-year-old rape victim died at GMCH-32 on Thursday. The victim had given birth to a premature baby in the seventh month of her pregnancy through C-section on Tuesday.

Minni Bharadwaj, investigating officer of the case, confirmed the death of the newborn. She said since the birth the condition of the newborn was critical. The child passed away on Wednesday night, said the IO.

It was on Tuesday that the victim had complained of stomach ache following which she was rushed to GMCH-32 where she gave birth to the child.

The rapist, a 17-year-old boy, was nabbed by the police following the victim's complaint.

Last night, the family members of the accused created high-drama outside the gynaecology ward of the hospital where the victim was admitted.

They accused the victim of implicating the boy in a false rape case. The hospital authorities called the police to bring the situation under control. 

The victim's brother was also facing charges of abducting and raping of a girl from Parwanoo. He is currently lodged in a juvenile home.
