Chandigarh, October 20
There are no takers for running and maintaining 300 toilets in the city, for which financial bids were to be filed today.
Notably, on October 4, three companies had showed interest in operating these toilets by participating in the pre-bid process. However, they sought some clarification regarding the project after which they did not find it viable.
A senior MC official said they would soon float a fresh tender. “We will work out some modalities and make it viable,” he added.
At present, public conveniences are in bad shape in the city. Several toilets in city parks are lying closed.
The civic body had taken over the maintenance work from a Delhi-based company in 2014. As the situation did not change much, short-term contracts were given to different contractors for their maintenance. Still, there were complaints of overcharging and poor upkeep.
