After ordering mass transfers, the outgoing UT DGP has promoted 384 cops to the rank of head constable after keeping the decision in abeyance for a day.
Interestingly, the promotion order issued on Tuesday and the transfer orders of 81 police personnel issued on June 18 were kept in abeyance. However, these orders were implemented on Wednesday.
The promotion orders of 384 constables issued by the outgoing DGP were kept in abeyance by SP (Headquarters) Eish Singhal, a few hours after these were issued. The same orders were again approved on Wednesday.
Similarly, the transfer orders of 81 police personnel that were kept in abeyance following an order passed the SP (Headquarters) were also approved on Wednesday.
Outgoing DGP Tajender Singh Luthra’s transfer orders were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on June 14 after which he transferred 135 police personnel, raising many an eyebrow. The first list of transfers was issued on June 15 in which 52 police personnel were transferred; the second list in which 81 police personnel were transferred was issued on June 18 and two more transfers of a DSP and an Inspector were ordered on June 19.
The transfer orders of 81 police personnel — 14 SIs, 12 ASIs and 55 others, including head constables and constables, were kept in abeyance following orders issued by the SP (Headquarters) on Tuesday night.
Sources said before issuing the orders, a message was flashed by the control room about suspension of the 81 transfers. An hour later, the SHOs, those in-charge of various other wings and duty officers received orders about the transfers being suspended. The same orders of transfers were re-implemented on Wednesday.
Despite several attempts, the SP (Headquarters) could not be contacted for comments. Luthra said due to some reasons, both orders were kept in abeyance. However, these had been approved.
According to sources, the UT top brass took serious note of the mass transfers and promotions made by the outgoing DGP that led to a series of meetings to deliberate over the decision on Tuesday and Wednesday.
