Chandigarh, February 8

When Vikramjeet Singh Hira of Sector 15 applied for permission to run a sound system during a pre-wedding sangeet ceremony of his brother Amandeep Singh, he thought it was a routine matter.

The ceremony was scheduled for today (February 8). However, not taking any chance, he applied for permission nearly two months ago on December 12 at the Sampark Centre in Sector 15 and deposited Rs 50 for the purpose. The permission was sought for holding the function at the Community Centre in Sector 23.

He was assured by the staff at the Sampark Centre that permission would be given to him within a week.

After a week, when he visited the Sampark Centre, he was told that his application was under process. He got the same reply each time he went to enquire about the status of his application.

He ran out of patience when he did not receive the permission even till this morning — the day of the function. When he visited the subdivisional office at Sector 17, he was surprised to learn that the computer was showing that the function was over.

He checked with the staff of the SDM’s office and was told that an employee of the Sampark Centre had made a wrong entry. Instead of writing the date of the function as February 8, 2016, the employee wrote the year 2015.

When information regarding the function was sent the SDM’s office, the software put the application in the list of functions already held.

Hira said he suffered a lot for no fault of his. He said he had to spend several hours at the SDM’s office to get the permission on a day he was supposed to be busy with the preparations.

Anil K Parashar, centre head, SPIC, said the software was prepared by the NIC and he would approach it to rectify it so that such things did no happen again.
