Overcharging continues at paid parking lots in city

CHANDIGARH: Even after the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has served a termination notice to the Sector 35-C parking contractor, overcharging is still continuing unabated in the paid parking lots of the city.

Even after the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has served a termination notice to the Sector 35-C parking contractor, overcharging is still continuing unabated in the paid parking lots of the city.

In a fresh case, the MC enforcement wing on Sunday evening detected overcharging and other violations at a parking lot opposite the Elante Mall in Industrial Aarea, Phase 1.

The MC enforcement wing detected that the staff at the parking lot was overcharging. Though the parking fee for a four-wheeler at a parking lot opposite the Elante Mall was Rs 10, yet the commuters were charged Rs 20 by the parking lot attendants.

Besides, there were other violations like haphazard parking. The MC today issued a notice to the contractor for overcharging.

Staff misbehaves with Sr Deputy Mayor 

The staff of the paid parking lot opposite the Elante Mall also misbehaved with Senior Deputy Mayor Davesh Moudgil. On Sunday evening, an employee of the parking lot asked Moudgil to pay the parking fee and when Moudgil showed him the parking sticker allotted to the councillors pasted on his vehicle, the staff still charged him Rs 10. The Senior Deputy Mayor has now brought the incident to the notice of MC Joint Commissioner Virender Chaudhary. 

Neelam parking lot contractor surrenders

Now, the contractor of the Neelam paid parking lot in Sector 17, submitted an application to the Municipal Corporation on Monday to surrender his parking lot. With this, as many as eight parking lot contractors have surrendered their lots.
