Panchkula, October 20

The air pollution level was less this Diwali as compared with that of last year. Between 6 am and 6 pm on the day of festival of lights, the air pollution level saw a fall of 35.6 per cent during the corresponding period last year. Similarly, between 6 pm on Diwali and 6 am the next day, the air pollution dipped by 30.36 per cent.   

  Vinay Gautam, Region Officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, said they compared the data of this year with that of the previous year and found that the level of air pollution, which they measured in micro grams per cubic metre (µg/m3) for particulate matter (2.5), was less. As per data, the air pollution was 84.63 µg/m3 at 7 pm on Diwali night; 100.25 at 8 pm and 109.16 at 9 pm against 179.25, 196.87 and 176.12 µg/m3 last year.  — TNS
