Several torn and tattered cartons of packaged curd lay scattered on the railway platform amid dirty water. These were to served on the 12 noon Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi here today.

“The sight caught the attention of the passengers, waiting to board the train, who were angered by the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities,” said Anil Kumar, an eyewitness.

Pointing towards the cartons lying scattered on the floor, Dr Jaspreet Sukhija remarked, “This is what they will serve us today in the 12 noon Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi.”

Renuka Siddhant, who had come to drop her 20-year-old son at the station, said, “My son had just boarded the train and I was waiting in front of his coach, C9, for the train to leave the station. I saw railway workers loading soiled packaged curd glasses, out of these torn cartons, into the train. I immediately told my son not to have food on the train.”

Siddhant blamed the indifferent attitude of the railway authorities for the incident. Dr Sukhija even tweeted about the issue.

Neeraj Sharma, CPRO, Northern Railway, expressed ignorance about what had happened. “Please share the details of the incident. I will get it verified and will be able to comment on the issue tomorrow,” Sharma said.
