Mohali, February 8

All markets in the town will have the paid parking system soon if the recommendations of a special committee set up for the purpose are accepted by the Mohali Municipal Corporation during a meeting of the House scheduled for February 16.

The committee, comprising three members representing market committees, is in favour of implementing the paid parking system in all markets of the town and has stressed the need for managing these properly.

“The issue will be part of the agenda for the MC meeting on February 16. The issue is most likely going to be passed as Mayor Kulwant Singh is in favour of it,” said a councillor of the Azad Group, headed by the Mayor.

However, the committee also pointed out shortcomings in the existing paid parking system at three markets in Phase VII, Phase 3B2 and Phase V, and recommended that these should be removed before introducing the system in the parking lots of other markets.

The committee observed that the contractor was not managing the paid parking lots properly. The CCTV cameras installed at the lots were not functioning.
