Anmol Malhotra and Karan Kalia scored a half-century each as visitors Patiala took a decisive 46-run first innings lead against Ludhiana on the Second day of their semifinal match in the ongoing Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Championship for the Katoch Shield here today.

Resuming on overnight 62/1 at the PAU grounds, the visitors managed to score 295 runs in response to Ludhiana’s first innings total of 249.

Pataila began the second day’s proceedings on a cautious note, defending everything that came their way. However, this approach proved counter effective as half of their side was back in the hut with just 138 runs on the board.

Ludhiana skipper Geetansh Khera used his bowlers astutely and pushed Patiala to the wall. However, a vital partnership between Anmol Malhotra and Karan Kalia helped the visitors close down on the Ludhiana total.

The duo added 83 runs for the sixth wicket before Malhotra was out for 57 runs. His 139-minute stay in the middle was graced with four boundaries and a six.

Karan, meanwhile, was more patient in his approach as he 51 runs off 159 balls before returning to the pavilion. His knock included three hits over the fence.

Akul Pandove and Sandeep Sharma then played sensibly to help Patiala surpass the hosts. Akul made a valuable 18, while Sharma contributed 21 runs to the total.

For Ludhiana, Krishan Kumar was the pick of bowlers, claiming 5/116, while Baltej Singh and Simranjeet Singh bagged two wickets each.

Ludhiana, meanwhile, began their second innings on a dismal note as they closed the day at 17/1.

Jalandhar on top

At Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar, Abhishek Gupta hit a strokeful 127 to help Jalandhar take a 143-run first innings lead against the hosts.

Gupta hit 14 boundaries and four sixes during his 155-ball knock as Jalandhar wrapped their innings at 314 in reply to Amritsar’s first total of 171.

Resuming the day on 128/3, Gupta and Himanshu Sharma added 46 runs to the overnight total before the duo was separated by Shivam Sharma. Sharma was dismissed after scoring a sedate 63.

Himanshu Satywan, who walked in at the fall of Sharma’s wicket, played a perfect foil to a well settled Gupta as the two raised an 84-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Satyawan fall prey to Vinay Choudhary after making a 71-ball 51, which included seven boundaries and a six. Love Kumar did not last long as he was dismissed by Choudhary for 10 runs.

Gupta, meanwhile, completed his century and extended the Jalandhar total to 302 before he was cleaned up by Shivam.

Shivam Sharma and Vinay Choudhary claimed four wickets each for Amritsar.
