Chandigarh, July 30
UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev has in principle approved a proposal for providing 25 per cent rebate to city residents who pay their house tax within three months.
Earlier, there was a proposal to provide only 10 per cent rebate. The UT and the MC are eyeing around Rs 20 crore revenue from house tax.
The UT Adviser said orders would be issued in this regard soon.
Asked whether the 25 per cent rebate would reduce the revenue of the MC, the Adviser said, “The move will be an incentive for law-abiding citizens. For higher revenue realisation, we will enhance the tax base and act tough against defaulters by imposing heavy penalties.”
The Administration will provide the facility to pay house tax through e-Sampark Centres, the Adviser said.
