Pay commercial property tax between April 1 and May 31, and get a 10 per cent rebate. 

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today announced that under the self-assessment scheme, it would give a 10 per cent rebate during these two months.

After May 31, there will be no rebate. Residents will have to pay 25 per cent extra over and above the prescribed rates along with 12 per cent interest per annumn till the end of the month in which the tax is deposited.

A senior MC official said for the convenience of assessees, printed tax demand bills would be issued by the MC in the beginning of April. There were around 23,000 commercial units within the MC limits, he said. 

MC to conduct fresh survey 

The MC is in the process of conducting a fresh physical survey of all residential properties for residential house tax as per the latest technology to ascertain the actual status and to bring those assessees under the net of tax who are evading it. They will be charged 25 per cent extra along with 12 per cent interest as prescribed in the MC bylaws.

Notices issued to 9,200 defaulters

Demand notices have been issued to around 9,200 defaulting assessees to clear their dues. Action is being initiated against them under Section 138 of the Punjab MC Act 1976 as extended to the UT, Chandigarh, to attach their properties after issuing them final show-cause notices.
