The Department of Transfusion Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has been conferred the prestigious award of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) for 2018.
The award was presented to Prof Neelam Marwaha and Prof RR Sharma by the president of the ISBT during the 35th International Congress of the ISBT in Toronto, Canada.
The award is in recognition of the departments’ service to the region, role in voluntary blood donation, implementation of state-of-the-art technologies for blood safety such as Nucleic Acid Testing for viral markers and the role in educational and human resource training and research.
The department is designated as the apex training centre for blood safety and quality management (human resource development) in blood banks by the National Blood Transfusion Council, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI.
Director, PGIMER, Prof Jagat Ram, congratulated Prof Neelam Marwaha and the entire staff of the department for their excellent teamwork which had led to the achievement.
