CHANDIGARH:Instead of letting the research gather dust, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) showcased their exemplary 190 research papers during the fifth annual institute research day.

Instead of letting the research gather dust, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) showcased their exemplary 190 research papers during the fifth annual institute research day.

Prof MC Misra, ex-Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, and presently Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Jaipur, was the chief guest and Prof Anil Koul, Director CSIR-IMTECH, was the guest of honour.

Since inception, the institute faculty has published over 20,000 high-quality research articles in various national and international journals.

Currently, 1,200 research papers by the PGI faculty are published every year. There was detailed interaction between the PGI faculty and the distinguished guests regarding their published research and the future plan.

Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI; Prof Rajesh Kumar, Dean (Academics), and Prof Digambar Behera, Dean (Research), introduced the distinguished guests to the gathering.

Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, spoke about the rich research heritage of the institute. Prof MC Misra addressed the gathering on a surgeon’s perspective on research and publications. He emphasized the need for teamwork, mentorship and collaboration between different departments and institutes.

Prof Anil Koul articulated on the importance of translating basic research to patient care by giving the example of bedaquiline, a novel drug approved for the treatment of tuberculosis.
