Police file challan in power staffer’s death at Azad Colony

CHANDIGARH: The UT police have submitted a challan against the accused in the death of an employee of the electricity department in Sector 25 here last year.

The UT police have submitted a challan against the accused in the death of an employee of the electricity department in Sector 25 here last year.

The challan has been filed under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC along with the other sections while the FIR was registered under Section 302 (murder).

Also, the police have initiated proclaimed offender (PO) proceedings against Sonam, who is absconding.

The 200-page challan submitted by the police includes 25 witnesses and the post-mortem report of the victim, Harwinder Singh, as evidence. The report mentions that Harwinder Singh died due to heart attack. The police have also included the CCTV footage of the incident, which shows the accused assaulting the electricity department officials.

In November 2017, Harwinder Singh, a substation attendant, along with his colleagues had gone to Azad Colony in Sector 25 to disconnect power supply to a house due to non-payment of bill. However, the duo that lived there, along with other accused, allegedly thrashed Harwinder Singh. While the victim had managed to escape, he had later collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The accused were been booked under Sections 302, 353, 332, 186,148 and 147 of the IPC. However, his post-mortem report said the death had taken place due to cardiac arrest.
