Chandigarh, January 15

A local court sent Burail Jail warder Vivek Kaushal to one-day police remand in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. The 25-year-old was arrested by the jail authorities yesterday under Sections 20, 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act. The case was handed over to the Sector 49 police station.

Kaushal was arrested after 800 gm of heroin, 700 gm of charas and some tablets were found from his possession. The police had sought a three-day remand claiming that the confessional statement of Deepu had to be taken into account on the basis of which the accused was arrested. Kaushal had been working at the jail for the past five years on contract. The police told the court that they needed to find out from whom and where Kaushal used to get the drugs.
