Patiala: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organised UGC-sponsored seven-day Faculty Development Programme, under the theme of 'Academic Writing: From critical appreciation to publication' from January 9 to January 16. Prof Rakesh Mohan Sharma, Additional Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala, presided over the valedictory function. He stressed on the need of research for initiating the qualitative changes in the country. Resource persons of repute from different universities interacted with the faculty members. Dr Jaspreet Mander, Head, Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala, talked in detail about the academic writing with special reference to research in languages and social sciences. Dr Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HR Centre, Panjab University, discussed the role of Critical Thinking for effective academic writing. Prof Ashwani Bhalla, SCD Government College, Ludhiana, spoke about the adverse impact of plagiarism on the quality of research. Prof DP Singh, Prof. and Head, Department of Social Works, Punjabi University, Patiala, talked about the urgency of teaching with sensitivity. — TNS
