An unknown person visited the Arrow store at Elante Mall posing as an official from the company and decamped with Rs 82,000 lying in the cash box.
According to the police, the complainant, Jeevan Chettri, who works as a manager at the store, said that while closing the store on June 20, the cash was kept in the cash box. It was locked and the keys were kept under the keyboard at the counter.
The complainant alleged that the next morning when he returned to the store, he opened the cash box and found the money missing. Chettri questioned salesman Balram and stock boy Rohit, who had arrived before him, about the cash. The duo told him that an unknown person walked into the store posing as an official. The person claimed that he was on a surprise visit and would check the store.
The police said the accused took a round of the store and managed to steal the cash from the box. The complainant claimed that all staff members knew about the keys lying under the keyboard at the cash counter.
The police were informed about the theft. A case has been registered at the Industrial Area police station. The police said the CCTV installed in the store was not functional.
