As the scorching heat is taking its toll with the mercury heading north, residents of several parts of Mohali are sweating it out due to erratic power supply for the past few days.
Unscheduled power cuts, frequent tripping and voltage fluctuation have become a norm in Sectors 66, 67, 68, 69 and 76, fed from Sohana subdivision of the PSPCL.
After spending a sleepless Wednesday night due to frequent tripping and shutdown, the residents of these areas were without power supply since 6 pm this evening.
Attributing the problem to overloading, PSPCL Sohana subdivision SDE said due to sudden overloading of the feeder, the power supply to the areas fed from it was tripping since last night. “We are trying to fix the problem,” said the SDE.
Power supply to hospital snapped
Even as the power supply to certain areas, which had plunged into darkness, was restored around 11 pm, power supply to Shivalik Hospital and Trauma Centre in Sector 69 was disconnected from the transformer without any notice. “I called Sohana PSPCL SDE HS Sangha, who admitted that he ordered disconnection of our hospital supply to check overloading in the area,” complained Dr SK Agarwal, who said several patients admitted to the ICU and emergency ward at the hospital were left in the lurch with the power shutdown.
Complaint cell number not working
The PSPCL complaint cell number — 1912 — was also not working, adding to the woes of the people. Residents said they kept trying on this number to lodge their complaints but in vain.
