A 25-year-old vendor of temple offerings was stabbed to death this evening at the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), Panchkula.

The victim has been identified as Jagdeep Singh of Bhainsa Tibba village at the MDC. Jagdeep Singh was unmarried and was living with his parents. He was their only son. He used to sell temple offerings outside the Mansa Devi temple. His father, Mahendra Singh, rears goats.  

The murder took place around 6.30 pm at Bhainsa Tibba behind Rhod Dharamshala. According to the police, Jagdeep had a tiff with youths of Gandhi Colony, a slum located opposite Bhainsa Tibba village.

They allegedly stabbed him multiple times. Raj Kumar, who used to work with Jagdeep, took him to General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where he was declared brought dead. The postmortem will be conducted tomorrow.

The police have registered a case of murder at the Mansa Devi Complex police station under Section 302 of the IPC. “There are two suspects. We will arrest them soon,” said Sub-Inspector Bhagwan Dass, SHO.   

Ajay, a relative of Jagdeep, said the murder took place after he came from the shop.

Sources said two brothers were rounded up for the murder. It is learnt that the younger accused was slapped and he complained to his elder brother. Both then planned and executed the murder.
