Princy Panchal blanked Milli Pandit 6-0 6-0 to enter the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals in the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today
Simran Pritam humbled Jaskirat Kaur 6-2 6-4, while Jyotsana Yadav registered a 6-0 6-2 win over Jasmay Kaur. Priyanka Jakhar tamed Radhika Vasudeva 6-4 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Snigdha Sran, who had an easy outing against Catherine Bhangu in the opening round of the championship yesterday, was made to sweat by a resilient Japjot Kaur before she earned a place in the quarterfinals with a marathon three-setter win.
Snigdha won the opening set comfortably (6-3), but Japjot came back to draw parity with a 7-5 win in the next set.
In the decider, both players raised their game and held on to their respective serves before Snigdha broke her opponent to win the set 7-5 and advance to the last-eight stage.
Muskan Rani also advanced to the next stage after beating Vanshita Malhotra 6-0 6-2. Suryanshi Tanwar drubbed Pawandeep Kaur 6-1 6-0.
Abhay on top
In the boys’ U-16 category, Abhay Mohan dumped Debasis Sahoo 6-2 6-3 to ensure a place in the quarterfinals.
Ajay Singh blanked Torus Rawat 6-0 6-0, while Sarabjot Singh got the better of Mahismat Kumar 6-2 6-3. Sukhpreet Singh registered a 6-2 6-3 win over Haramanjot Singh.
Aarav Singh Gill overcame Samarvir Sran in a sea-saw battle to seal a spot in the quarterfinals. Aarav won the opening set 6-3, but Samarvir restored parity with a 6-4 win in the second set. Aarav, though, regained his composure to win the final set 6-4 to make a move to the next round. Manveer Singh edged past Pranay Sharma 6-3 6-2, while Sidharth Goel demolished Aarav Joshi 6-0 6-0. Parth Goel registered a 6-2 6-3 win over Aryan Thakur.
Sukhpreet stuns Parth
Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje, meanwhile, rallied from a set down to overcome Parth Goel and book a berth in the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals.
After losing the opening set 3-6, Sukhpreet bounced back to stun Parth with a 6-3 6-3 win in the next two sets.
In an another intense encounter, Avish Verma overcame a resilient Pranav Chopra 6-4 6-7(7) 6-4 to stay alive in the competition.
Sidharth Goel drubbed Sarthak Arora 6-0 6-0, while Aryan Thakur tamed Sanyam Madaan 6-2 6-0. Samarvir Sran had an easy outing against Rakshit Dhankar, winning the pre-quarterfinal tie 6-2 6-1.
Jitin Chetry overwhelmed Sarthak Singla 6-4 6-1, while Gurjosh Singh outplayed Aarav Joshi 6-2 6-4.
