Chandigarh: Prof Digamber Behera, Senior pulmonologist and former Dean Research, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), has been reemployed on a contract for two years.



Chandigarh: Prof Digamber Behera, Senior pulmonologist and former Dean Research, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), has been reemployed on a contract for two years. The reemployment has been cleared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He is the Chairman of National Task Force on TB. 

Trinity Fest today

Chandigarh: After covering several Indian cities, Trinity Fest 2018 is coming to the City Beautiful. The event, aimed at supporting the teaching community, will showcase the subject suites being offered by Trinity College London. The event, to be held on Saturday, will feature multiple presenters and performers of the Trinity Academic Support team. Workshops will be held on the classical and contemporary genre of music, drama, communication skills, performance arts and English language. Sahil Jain, local representative of the college, says: “The fest will provide an opportunity for teachers to get acquainted with an array of subjects, understand the nuances of the new syllabi and interact with the academic team.”

Rotary Club celebrates 60 yrs 

Chandigarh: The Rotary Club of Chandigarh celebrated 60 years of serving the humanity in the city. It was on May 10 in 1958 that the Rotary Club received its charter from Rotary International, said Club President PS Matharoo. The club celebrated its 60th birthday at Elante mall to showcase its community service projects to the public. 

CET postponed 

Chandigarh: Panjab University has changed the dates of PU- CET (Postgraduate) Entrance Test from June 2 and June 3 to June 10 and June 11. TNS

52-yr-old man goes missing

Lalru: A 52-year-old man allegedly went missing under mysterious circumstances from Sitapur village near Lalru. Victim’s son Malkit Singh, a resident of Sitapur village near Lalru, lodged a missing complaint. The complainant told the police that his father Bihari Lal left home around 5 am on April 25, but did not return home. Malkit said the family started looking out for him and even contacted their relatives thinking he might have gone to his native place. Their search proved futile following which they approached the police on Friday and lodged a complaint. The police have started investigations. OC

Pedestrian dies in road mishap

Lalru: A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a car on the link road near Tongapur village here on Thursday. According to the police, the victim has been identified as Darshan Singh, a resident of Dappar village. The police said the victim had gone for a morning walk on Thursday. When he reached the link road near Tongapur village, a car, going in the same direction, reportedly hit the victim from the rear, following which he sustained serious injuries. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. He was later referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to his injuries, said sources. The police have registered a case against an unidentified driver. OC

Man booked for bigamy

Kharar: The police have registered a case under Sections 494 and 498-A, IPC, against Manminder Singh of Rajpura on the charge of harassing his wife and marrying another girl. The case has been registered on a complaint sent by Krishana Devi, mother of Anju, to the Mohali SSP. She stated that her daughter Anju was married to Manminder in 2004 and she has been living in Rajpura for 14 years. Since beginning, she was harassed by her in-laws. She alleged Manminder is staying with a woman, a divorcee, and they have a girl child. The complaint stated that being fed up by them, Anju even jumped into a canal on the Chandigarh-Patiala road in 2013, but somebody saved her. Her husband did not return home for the past two years. BJYM holds interactive session

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Friday organised an interactive session, ‘Atal Iraade’, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear Test at the party office, Kamalam, in Sector 33 here. BJP organisational secretary Dinesh Kumar Sharma and defence expert Dinesh Kumar were the key speakers. Since 1999, May 11 is commemorated as National Technology Day to celebrate the anniversary of Pokhran nuclear tests. Chandigarh BJYM president Gaurav Goel, national executive member Amit Rana, state general secretaries Mehakveer Sandhu, Amandeep Singh and others were also present on the occasion. TNS

Dental council members elected

Mohali: Dr Rajan Jairath, Dr Nitin Verma, Dr Anshuman Kharbanda and Dr Romika Uppal were elected as members of the Punjab Dental Council, Mohali. The counting of votes for the elections to the four seats was done on May 9 in the office of the returning officer, Punjab Dental Council, Medical Education Bhawan, Sector 69, here. TNS
