A 55-year-old financier-cum-property dealer Narsingh Dev Bedi, a resident of Sector 47, was found dead at the Tribune roundabout today along with a bag containing Rs 15.14 lakh. The cash is said to be token money pertaining to a property deal.

Besides, 11 mobile phones (only three functional), some property papers and clothes were also found with the body.

Parminder Singh, ASP (East), said no injury marks were found on the body and the victim might have died a natural death. The police have ruled out any foul play.

At 8.30 am, a local passerby informed the police about the unattended body. A PCR vehicle on duty rushed him to Government Medical College in Sector 32, where he was declared brought dead by a team of doctors. The body was recognised by an identification card found in the victim’s wallet.

The victim is survived by an 88-year-old mother, his estranged wife and a daughter.

According to the statement of Narsingh’s mother, who used to stay with him, the victim left home at around 5.20 am to catch a bus to Delhi. He was scheduled to return on Sunday evening after striking a property deal for which he was allegedly carrying the token money (1,500 currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 28 notes of Rs 500 denomination).

“There were no injury marks on the victim’s body and it seems that he died a natural death. However, the exact situation will be clear after the postmortem reports are out” said Parminder Singh. He further said the deceased was a property dealer so he might be carrying the amount for a client or a colleague. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.

While some relatives said the deceased was under depression due to the dispute in his marital life. He was living separately from his wife for the past eight years and was allegedly facing a case of domestic violence for the past four years. Police sources said that the postmortem was conducted in the evening and no foul play was suspected. However, the viscera sample has been fsent to the CFSL for further examination.
