PU joins the fitness wave

Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, celebrated fourth International Yoga Day by performing the common yoga protocol from 6 am to 8 am with more than 500 people, including students, faculties, local residents and NSS volunteers, at Gymnasium Hall, PU.



Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, celebrated fourth International Yoga Day by performing the common yoga protocol from 6 am to 8 am with more than 500 people, including students, faculties, local residents and NSS volunteers, at Gymnasium Hall, PU. The Sports Department made the arrangements for LED screen for listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation. Since the inception of the celebrations of International Yoga Day in 2015, the PU has been regularly providing yoga classes to people on the campus and outsiders as well.

Lecture on yoga held

Chandigarh: The Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies (ICSVS), Panjab University, organised a half day retreat on developing self by celebrating International Yoga Day on Thursday. It was a day dedicated to inner and outer well-being of human body through physical, mental and spiritual practice. Yoga Protocol by Ashupratap was attended by students and teachers. Prof Nandita Singh, coordinator, ICSVS, said yoga should be adopted by youth as a way of life for enhancing their potential as it had the ability to bring a balance between body and mind, develop focus and give direction. Yoga was an important element for stress-free life, she added. A lecture on "Yoga in the making of inner persona" by Indu Aggarwal, director, Disha for Success, was organised.

NCC cadets celebrate the day 

Chandigarh: The Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, celebrated fourth International Yoga Day on its college premises on Thursday. Around 227 NCC cadets of various colleges, schools and university, NCC representatives and teaching faculty performed yoga during the camp. The yoga session started with a prayer and systematic practice of different meditative postures and asanas under the supervision of yoga expert Capt Neelam. VK Shveoran, Commanding Officer of the 1 Chd Girls Battalion, NCC, addressed the gathering by saying that yoga was important in our day-to-day life. Principal Binu Dogra said, "Yoga symbolises unity of mind and body and bring harmony between human being and nature."

Yoga camp ends at NIPER

Mohali: The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali, celebrated International Yoga Day by organising a three-day yoga camp from June 19 to 21 in association with the Dhyan Foundation, Delhi. About 100 faculty and staff members with their families and students attended the yoga camp. Prof Raghuram Rao, Director, NIPER, said yoga was essential to raise the consciousness and live a balanced life. Dhyan Foundation volunteers, under the guidance of yogi Ashwini, took the participants on a journey of rediscovering self and moving them from vikriti to prakriti through a series of asanas, pranayam and dhyan. An interactive session was also organised for participants with yoga experts. TNS
