Senator and faculty member, Professor Rupinder Tewari, in a letter which he circulated among other senators and faculty members today, alleged that a planned and sustained attack was being carried out against the Panjab University Vice Chancellor by creating financial and moral issues, sensationalising them and dragging them to the offices of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry and Chancellor of the university by those who could not succeed in stopping his extension.

In his letter, he mentioned that the students’ wing of a national political party met the HRD Minister and submitted a list of financial irregularities being committed by the Vice Chancellor and other higher ups of the university.

Though there is no substantive evidence of financial bungling against the targeted-senators, the students’ wing took the matter to Centre, the letter read.

Another incident, which he mentioned, was about the complaint made by Professor Rajesh Gill against the VC about the alleged misbehaviour by the latter at his office while the former went to congratulate him for his extension.

In the complaint, she has also used the words such as sycophants and shoe-lickers for her colleagues who are supposed to be close to the VC.

In the letter, it has been further stated that there seemed to be an inconsistency in the issue as on the one hand she had alleged that the VC winked at her during meetings, and on the other hand, she went to his office to congratulate him, especially when VC had already acknowledged her congratulations through SMS.

While Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, who got a clean chit from the grievance cell committee on the complaint made by Prof Gill, said he had nothing more to add to the report given by the committee.
