The Syndicate approved a five per cent fee hike for all Panjab University (PU) courses for the academic session 2016-17. Following the decision taken by the Senate last year, the fee committee proposed the hike for all the courses of the university from the next session.
The meeting was chaired by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover.
At the Syndicate meeting, it was decided that the hike will be capped at a minimum of Rs 500 and a maximum of Rs 1,200 per annum for various courses from the next session. For NRI students, there will be a five per cent hike in fee without any capping.
An official said with the hike in fee, an additional revenue of around Rs.1.6 crore would be generated by the university authorities. The proposal will be tabled at the Senate meeting scheduled to take place in March for a final nod.
Informed sources said there was not much opposition and a decision was taken that every year, there would be a minimum hike of five per cent for all courses.
