Chandigarh, May 19

Panjab University (PU) is set to go for installation of rooftop solar power system in its Sector 25 campus. The PU Syndicate will discuss it in its meeting on May 26.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India, which is a Central Government enterprise, has issued Letter of Allocation to various vendors, and M/s Azure Power Rooftop One has been designated as the vendor for Chandigarh. The PU doesn’t have to go through any tendering process.

The university would follow the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model, wherein total investment would be by the installing firm.

The solar power system has to be installed by the approved vendor and would have an expected life span of 25 years and the responsibility for operation and maintenance lies with the installing firm throughout this period.

In return, the PU would get the generated power through subsidised rates which have been approved by the Central Government at Rs 3.44 per KW power.
