Chandigarh: Puneet won the title in the open category while Apoorv Anand and Vinod Sharma finished at second and third positions, respectively, on the concluding day of the 9th Open Chess tournament here today.



Chandigarh: Puneet won the title in the open category while Apoorv Anand and Vinod Sharma finished at second and third positions, respectively, on the concluding day of the 9th Open Chess tournament here today.  In the U-16 category, Ajay Yadav won the first position, followed by Deepak Khas at the second spot and Vedant Joshi at the third position.In the U-12 category, Deepit, Ashmit and Harshit won the first three positions, respectively. While in the open girls’ category, Deepanshi and Neerzara won the top two positions, respectively. The winners of all the categories were awarded with cash awards. 

Saupin’s School in final

Chandigarh: Hosts St Kabir School, Sector 26, secured a berth in the final beating St Kabir (A) by seven wickets in the ongoing U-13 cricket cup here on Sunday. Batting first, St Kabir (A) boys scored 77 runs in 18.5 overs. Tiranbir (25) and Sanarshan (13) were the top-scorers. Bhanu claimed three wickets, while Shaurya chipped in with two. In reply, St Kabir team scored 81/3 with Arjun (27) and Lakshya (15) being the top-scorers.In the second semifinal, Saupin’s School, Sector 32, defeated St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School by seven wickets. Batting first, St Joseph’s scored 126 runs in 20 overs, with Aryan (28), Timin (22) and Aryan Srivastav (23) being the major contributors. Dikshant Mittal and Ishan Garg claimed two wickets each.In reply, Saupin’s scored 127/3 in 17.3 overs. Dikshant Mittal (55) and Jaskaran Singh (50) helped the side to victory. The final match will be held on Monday at the St kabir School grounds.— TNS
